"The opening of our embassy in Jakarta reflects our thoughts on the importance of bilateral relations with Indonesia," he said at a press conference here on Monday, after meeting with Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa.
Martinov noted Indonesia and Belarus had a "complementary relationship in economy and political sectors". In the trade sector, he said, the trade value during 2010-11 increased by 27 percent. In the future, Martinov added, Belarus was interested to cooperate with Indonesia in other sectors such as mining, agriculture, education and business relations.
"Belarus is ready to enhance cooperation with Indonesia beyond the trade sector. We would like to supply machinery for agriculture and mining activities, and also increase cooperation in the education and defence sectors," he said.
Meanwhile, Marty stated Belarus and Indonesia were currently in the process of establishing 14 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in various sectors, including economic and technical cooperation, avoidance of double taxation, promotion of investment opportunities, cooperation law, research and technology, and culture and disaster management.
"The 14 MoUs reflect the potential of cooperation between Indonesia and Belarus," he said.
