It is this year`s quota and we are trying to meet itAceh Tamiang, Aceh Province (ANTARA News) - South Korea needs 10,500 skilled and semi-skilled workers from Indonesia in 2012, according to Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) chief Moh Jumhur Hidayat.
"It is this year`s quota and we are trying to meet it," he said here on Friday, adding that South Korea needed Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) for its industry, manufacturing, services, and agriculture sectors.
Jumhur made the statement during a meeting with community figures and TKI stakeholders in Seruway sub-district, Aceh Tamiang district.
"Migrant workers from Aceh should not just limit themselves to Malaysia. They should explore other options. South Korea needs 10,500 workers from Indonesia this year, and as of July 5, 2012, 108 Indonesian workers have been sent to South Korea," he said.
Earlier, Jumhur stated that BNP2TKI was committed to improving the welfare of Indonesian migrant workers and empowering them.
"After becoming a member of TKI, they must be more prosperous than before," he said in Medan, North Sumatra, on Thursday.
Jumhur praised TKI for helping the government overcome poverty and unemployment by providing Rp100 trillion per year through remittance.
He said BNP2TKI was working in cooperation with the World Bank and Australian Government Overseas Aid Program (AUSAID) to improve the welfare of TKI.
