"Palestine`s concerns and struggles are also our concerns and struggles."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Thursday that Indonesia is committed to maintaining world peace and security, and to finding peaceful solutions for various conflicts.

"Our country has become one of the main contributing nations to UN peace missions," the president said in his annual state of the nation address in Parliament on the eve of the country`s Independence Day.

With the establishment of the International Peace and Security Centre at Sentul, Bogor in the west Java province, Indonesia will now be able to contribute more to world peace and security, he stated.

As part of its efforts to maintain world peace and security, as well as promoting justice for every nation, Indonesia has consistently supported Palestine`s struggle for independence and its rights as a sovereign state, Yudhoyono noted.

"Palestine`s concerns and struggles are also our concerns and struggles," he added.

He also pointed out that the 21st century world is more positive and promising as the majority of the international communities have chosen to solve their conflicts peacefully.

"There are no longer major wars involving several countries such as World War I and II. Most international communities prefer to solve their conflicts peacefully," he said.

He however, also noted that despite this positivity, several threats have been posed to world peace and security in the last few years.
