"We also tried to achieve inclusive economic growth that can be enjoyed by all levels of society."New York (ANTARA News) - Inequality among various sections of the society has the potential to cause conflict, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said during a meeting of High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda held at the UN Headquarters on Wednesday.
"Equal treatment and equitable development are crucial in order to avoid unnecessary conflict," he stated.
President Yudhoyono added that his government was making efforts to implement equitable development programmes for all communities in Indonesia.
"We are trying to eliminate inequality because it can create hatred, pressure, conflicts, violence, and even wars," he explained.
The Indonesian head of state pointed out that equality could be achieved by providing all citizens of the country with equal access to development opportunities.
According to President Yudhoyono, justice and economic growth are essential for peace.
"For years we have developed South-South cooperation to encourage and help conflict-ridden countries achieve peace. We also tried to achieve inclusive economic growth that can be enjoyed by all levels of society," he said.
"Indonesia also participated in Southwest Pacific Dialogue meetings, Pacific Islands Forum, and the New Asia African Strategic Partnership programme in order to cooperate with many countries in promoting equitable growth," the President added.
