"By doing so, I can feel how big is the benefit of the program for the people."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said on Thursday the National Program for Community Empowerment (PNPM) is one of the models of poverty alleviation efforts.
"The pattern cannot recklessly be applied without showing its success," he said in his opening address to the Community Empowerment Work Expo and Award 2012 at the Jakarta Convention Hall here.
The vice president said he always takes the chance to look at the realization of the program whenever he visits areas in the country.
"By doing so, I can feel how big is the benefit of the program for the people," he said.
The success of the program is inseparable from two principles underlying it, namely philosophy and operational mechanism, he noted.
"From the standpoint of philosophy, PNPM is a program from, for and by the people. That is the most essential element of the people`s welfare," he said.
The operational mechanism of the program in the field has proved workable and accountable, he said.
"Good governance is also inseparable from PNPM," he said.
The two elements must be maintained, he said.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Cooperatives, Small and Medium Businesses Minister Syarief Hasan and Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan.***3***
