"We hope this exhibition becomes a gateway for us to the Asian market."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has reportedly collected more than US$970,000, through direct orders, at the China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) held this month.

"This shows that Indonesian products are able to compete with other international products. Our products are bought by international buyers," said Gusmardi Bustami, the Director General of National Export Development, Ministry of Trade, in a written statement received here on Friday.

"Indonesian products that have become a major attraction at the exhibition are recycled furniture made from wood, tin cans and tyres, as well as hand-crafted wooden furniture and accessories," he added.

CIFF is one of the major international exhibitions in China and Central Asia for furniture products.

"Participants in the exhibition are from the production and manufacturing sector, industry sector, research and technology centres, as well as universities. Architects, interior designers, importers, agents and retailers are also taking part," the statement said.

Some 973 exhibitors from five countries - Japan, Korea, Ireland, Vietnam, Indonesia and China - are participating in the exhibition.

The CIFF is in its 30th year, but Indonesian furniture producers took part in it for the first time this year.

"We hope this exhibition becomes a gateway for us to the Asian market," Gusmardi stated.

At the exhibition, Indonesia was represented by 11 companies: Aida Furniture, Furniture Astika, Indojati Furniture, CV. Nuansa Kayu Bekas, Phoros Galleri, Teak 123, Top Mebel Furniture, Abiyasa, Elmas Natura, Griya Kriyasta Nugraha dan Maharani, and Maharani Kreasi Abadi. *** 2 ***
