"I will leave for Wamena on Saturday to see and directly hear report about the incident."
Jayapura (ANTARA News) - Papua regional police sent a mobile brigade to Wamena in the regency of Jayawijaya on Friday to take security precaution after weapons of the Aphalapsili district police were stolen by unknown people.

The weapons and tens of bullets were stolen on Thursday noon when the Aphalapsili police headquarters in the regency of Yalimo, was left by the police members.

Papua police chief Ins. Gen. Tito Karnavian told ANTARA news agency the police mobile brigade had been sent to Wamena to strengthen security in Jayawijaya.

Tito did not elaborate on how the district police could have left their headquarters unguarded, saying "investigation is still in process,".

"I will leave for Wamena on Saturday to see and directly hear report about the incident," he said.

Meanwhile, Jayawijaya police chief Adj. Sr Comr FS Napitupulu said he had not received report from a police team sent to Aphalapsili about the incident because of the difficulty in communications.

It will take longer time to reach Aphalapsili from Wamena because of bad weather, Napitupulu said, adding normally it will take 15 hours on foot.
