Jakarta (ANTARA News) - According to an official at the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space, LAPAN, the Quadranteds meteor shower will take place in Indonesia at 4am on Thursday.

Thomas Djamaluddin, who works at the institute, said Indonesians will be able to see the Quadranteds meteor shower on Thursday.

Meteor showers are visible when the weather is clear, away from light pollution, and at a place without trees and buildings.

People will be able to witness meteor showers in the northeast direction, where the Bootes constellation lies.

The Quadranteds meteor shower occurs annually, and in 2013, the meteor shower will occur between January 1 and January 10. The meteor shower will reach its peak on January 3, said Thomas.

"Meteor showers are caused by streams of cosmic debris that enter the Earth at high speed," he explained.

According to the United States Space Agency (NASA), the Quadranteds meteor shower occurs in the presence of the EH1 asteroid, which was first observed in 1825.

Meteor showers occur when an asteroid`s dust particles come into contact with the Earth`s atmosphere, he added.

These dust particles are likely to enter the Earth`s atmosphere at 145,000 km/hour, Thomas said.
