"The Democratic Party is ready to compete fairly in the upcoming general election, thanks to the hard work of the party`s members," the party`s secretary general, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, said.
Semarang, C Java (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Democratic Party`s Secretary General, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, said his party is prepared to compete fairly in the general election in 2014.

Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, who is also known as Ibas, made this statement on Tuesday, upon the release of the General Election Commission`s (KPU) plenary session`s results.

"The Democratic Party is ready to compete fairly in the upcoming general election, thanks to the hard work of the party`s members," he said.

Ibas is also a member of the House of Representatives (DPR-RI) Commission-I. He oversees the foreign, information and defence affairs. Ibas expressed his gratitude to all the members of the party for their commitment in the upcoming general election.

Ibas also showed appreciation to the KPU, the regional Electoral Commission (KPUD), the electoral supervisory board (Bawaslu) and the general election supervisory committee (Panwaslu), for their hard work. They had conducted verification of various political parties, which will be participating in the upcoming general election.

According to him, the Democratic Party is encouraging its members to become the party`s legislative members.

"The Democratic Party is keen to recruit the party's legislative members. The Democratic Party is keen on recruiting members who are loyal and committed," he said.

Ibas said the Democratic Party will allow more women to become legislative members. The legislative members can be religious figures, academicians and artists.

"However, they should meet the prerequisites set by the party," he said.

Ibas hopes that other political parties will compete fairly and abide by the law.

Meanwhile, a political observer who works at the University of Indonesia, Ari Junaedi, said the Democratic Party should enhance its image in 2013, in light of the legislative and presidential elections in 2014. (*)
