Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Landslides and floods triggered by high rainfall hit a number of areas in North Sulawesi province on Sunday but no casualties were reported.

"The landslides affected among others roads linking Ranowangko in Minahasa district to Amurang in South Minahasa district, Matani to Taratara in Tomohon Municipality, and Tomohon to Pineleng," head of the North Sulawesi Provincial Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Hoyke Makarawaung said on Sunday.

He added however that the road linking Tomohon to Pineleng had returned to normal.

The rains also caused floods in a number of areas including South Minahasa district, Minahasa district and Manado municipality, he said.

The provincial government had taken a number of steps to deal with the natural disasters by among others coordinating with district and municipal governments, he said.

"We have checked disaster-hit areas and provided emergency response aid," he said.

In Manado, landslides and floods affected several areas after five hours of heavy rains on Sunday.

Among the affected areas are Sumompo, Dendangan Dalam, Kombos Timur, and Paal Empat.

"The landslides and floods claimed no lives," head of the agency`s emergency and logistics section Jenny Bangonang said.

Jenny said the disaster destroyed a house in Dendengan Dalam.

"In Paal Empat a river overflowed its banks inundating a number of houses but no casualties or injuries are reported," he said. (S012/B003)
