"Pak SBY will never take over the leadership of the party to handle the internal problem. But he will continue to lend a hand to solve the case, as expected by all Democrat`s cadres," Sopacua said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Democrat Party Advisory Board Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, better known as SBY, will not take over the helm of the ruling party to handle the internal problem that has led to the decline in its electability, its deputy general chairman Max Sopacua said here on Monday.
"Pak SBY will never take over the leadership of the party to handle the internal problem. But he will continue to lend a hand to solve the case, as expected by all Democrat`s cadres," Sopacua noted.
According to him, President Yudhoyono who is concurrently the chairman of Democrat Advisory Board has long wanted to deal with the internal problem of the party.
Sopacua added that the support for the party was predicted to continue decreasing.
"We, at the central executive board, have since long ago expected Pak SBY to overcome the problem," Sopacua said in responding to the result of a survey from Saiful Mujani Research Consulting (SMRC) which said that the Democrat`s electability has dropped to 8 percent.
"We all want to rescue this party but everything should follow the existing mechanism," he went on.
Asked about Democrat General Chairman Anas Urbaningrum` plan to resign, Sopacua said it was not that simple for him to decide.
"We adhere the principle of the presumption of innocence in taking decisions. I think we will let the right of decision making up to Pak SBY," he said.
Sopacua made the statement to respond to a meeting between Democrat secretary general Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono and the Advisory Board secretary Jero Wacik to discuss the scheme of rescuing the party.
Before the meeting, Jero Wacik said it was necessary for SBY to take a concrete step to rescue the Democrat Party.
Wacik even expressed his hope that the party`s general chairman Anas Urbaningrum would have a big heart to resign.(*)
