"I think the three issues are relevant to the problems our people are currently facing."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that policy taken to reduce fuel oil subsidy burden should carefully be considered so that it would not disturb economy, security and the people`s sense of fairness.

"I want to see a step which is real and concrete viewed from various aspects so that solution to the subsidy burden would not adversely disturb us," the President said when he opened a cabinet meeting on economic affairs here on Thursday.

He said that the policy that should be taken should be good viewed from the economic aspect on one side and would neither create social problem and unfairness on the other.

"On one aspect it should not cause economic problems but would neither cause social and unfairness problems on the other," the president said.

He said certainly it would always create political matters but if it created problems in the economic, social and security sectors, it meant that the solution that was taken was not correct.

The president said he had summoned the chairman of the National Economic Committee (KEN) and the chief economic minister to discuss the matter.

"I asked the relevant minister and the KEN chief to discuss and take a decision regarding this problem," President Yudhoyono said.

President Yudhoyono met with the National Economic Committee (KEN) to discuss three main issues of the national economy Wednesday.

After the meeting the president told a press conference in his office that the three main issues were subsidized fuel, food prices and poverty alleviation.

"I think the three issues are relevant to the problems our people are currently facing," he said.

According to the President, the meeting was a follow up to the previous one.

The President said his meeting with KEN that took place for a couple of hours was productive. It could provide a reference for taking further policies.

On the occasion, President Yudhoyono also instructed the government officials to manage the follow up of the meeting and solution of the three main issues can be proposed and turned into a policy immediately.

"Within two weeks, I ask KEN to report again the results of what we have discussed. Government officials under the coordination of the Coordinating Minister for Economy should also do the same thing. In our next meeting, I hope that solutions to the three main issues can be obtained," the President said.

The President added that solution to the three main issues must be correct one and should not cause more problems.

In the press conference, President Yudhoyono was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam.

In the meantime, KEN with its five members was led by its chairman Chairul Tandjung.
