"The third floor is used for a meeting room."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Fire fighters, after working hard for more than two hours, succeeded in putting out the fire that broke out on the third floor of the State Secretariat`s main building on Thursday evening.

The fire which broke out at 4.50 pm was successfully taken under control at 7.15 pm after 37 fire trucks and 175 fire fighters were deployed to get the blaze under control.

Fire trucks and fire fighters had left the building Thursday night.

Presidential Spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, First Lady Mme Ani Yudhoyono and Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono monitored the efforts to put out the fire from the sixth floor of the State Guest House.

The building of the State Secretariat sits side-by-side with the State Palace.

Julian said Thursday night the president was in the State Palace accompanied by a number of ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Minister Djoko Suyanto and Police Chief General Timur Pradopo.

The fire broke out when the president was holding a limited cabinet meeting. The president stopped the meeting immediately and went to inspect the fire directly.

Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said the burnt third floor of the main building was used as a meeting room. It was not an archive room nor the office of the minister/state secretary.

"The third floor is used for a meeting room," Hatta said.

Hatta was accompanying the president to monitor the fire together with other ministers such as Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, House Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi and Djoko Suyanto.
