"I`m very excited to be here."Taipei (ANTARA News/CNA) - Hollywood star Tom Cruise left Taiwan for the United States on Sunday (April 7) , ending his three-day whirlwind visit to the country to drum up interest in his new film.
Cruise left Taiwan on a personal plane after making appearances to promote his latest sci-fi action film "Oblivion," in which he plays a veteran in the future who will determine the fate of mankind.
During his stay, the actor visited a local restaurant to learn how to make its signature xiaolongbao, or small steamed buns, on Saturday and attended the premiere of his movie in Taipei that night, where he was greeted by some 2,000 passionate fans.
Local media and fans praised the movie star as "down-to-earth" and "sincere." Cruise spent more than two hours shaking the hands of fans and signing autographs on the red carpet before the premiere.
"I`m very excited to be here. I haven`t been here for many, many years, so it`s really nice to be here," Cruise told local TV channel Television Broadcasts Satellite (TVBS).
Taiwan was the only stop on Cruise`s film promotion tour in Asia. It was the 50-year-old actor`s third visit to Taiwan. His last visit was in 2001 to promote his sci-fi film "Vanilla Sky."
He is scheduled to attend a premiere in Los Angeles on April 10.
