I am sure Indonesia`s textile industry would grow.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government hopes Indonesia`s textile industries could increase their market contribution up to five percent in the future.

"Right now their contribution to the world`s market is still at 1.8 percent. I hope it will increase to four or five percent in the next ten years," industry minister MS Hidayat said after opening a national meeting of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) here on Thursday.

He said Indonesia`s textile industry is indeed not the biggest in the world but has been among the ten biggest.

In the ASEAN region it is only below Vietnam which is the world`s biggest, he said.

"I am sure Indonesia`s textile industry would grow. A lot of investors from China have been interested to invest here due labor problems they are facing," he said.

He said although Indonesia also has labor problems they are not as big as those in China while admitting the low capability of the country`s workers.

"We have planned training programs to improve their capability such as those held in Central Java and now being prepared in West Java," he said.

Sharing Hidayat`s view, API general chairman Ade Sudrajat, admitted that the capability of the country`s workers need to be improved.

Indonesia`s exports of textile and textile products reach US$12.46 billion or 10.7 percent of the country`s total non-oil and gas exports.
