It is not enough for foreign minister Marty Natalegawa to only ask for clarification from the alleged countries, because it will only show the country`s weakness in diplomacy, Fadli Zon said..Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government should summon ambassadors of the countries that have allegedly wiretapped President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for an explanation because it is a national concern, said a politician here on Tuesday.
"This is not only the President`s concern but a national one," the vice chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Fadli Zon said.
As reported earlier by Australian Sidney Morning Herald on Friday, the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd gained an advantage over the espionage activity taking place when President Yudhoyono attended the G20 Summit in London, 2009.
An anonymous source close to the Australian govt said, in April 2009, the Australian delegation gained intelligence support from Britain and United States.
Zon said it is not enough for foreign minister Marty Natalegawa to only ask for clarification from the alleged countries, because it will only show the country`s weakness in diplomacy.
"Govt should act more decisively by summoning the countries` ambassadors," he said.
Zon also hoped for the evaluation of the President`s security procedures and provisions to avoid its recurrence.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said that the incident was very concerning and against international relations` code of conduct.
"If it is true then it is very concerning and violate the code of conduct of international relations," the minister said.
The National Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Marciano Norman meanwhile said that the incident still has yet to be verified.
"We did not fully believe in the news report. It is still one-sided and so clarification from the other parties is needed. We are looking for true information. Currently it is under process," Marciano said.
Marciano said that a head of state should obtain security guarantee during a visit to another country, not only while performing his activities but also in terms of information security.
The wiretapping incident, he said, has forced Indonesia to make its best efforts to evaluate the security system so that it would not happen again.
He considered current rapid technological development requiring specialized skills to prevent any leakage of state information.(*)
