Police have arrested six international narcotic drugs ring members.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The West Jakarta police have arrested six members of an international narcotic drugs ring planning to conduct a transaction involving two kilograms of methamphetamine kept in snack packets.

"The police have arrested six international narcotic drugs ring members," the head of the Narcotics Unit at the West Jakarta Police Command, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Gembong Yudha revealed on Tuesday.

He further said that the police had initially received information about a planned narcotics transaction in front of an MOI Apartment lobby in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Friday.

Based on the information, the police had arrested FY and SB, who were trying to sell two kilograms of methamphetamine.

"The stuff was taken from Batam upon the order of YT and GT," Gembong said.

He said the police had then investigated the network and were later able to arrest YT and GT, following information culled from the two suspects arrested earlier.

The police also caught YT at the Orchard Hotel in Central Jakarta and the other suspect in Batam located in Sumatras Riau Islands.

Later the police also arrested SP and HL at the Batam Center Square, he said.

The police had also chased and finally arrested HL and HDT, who were believed to be the couriers of the illegal consignment.

Gembong said the sixth suspect had confessed that he had received the drugs from Malaysian citizens known by their initials of AM and AB.

If convicted of violating Articles 112 and 114 of Law Number 35 of 2009 on narcotics, the suspects could face a maximum death penalty.(*)
