Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Military (TNI) deployed 31 thousands soldiers to help mitigate floods and other disasters that have occurred in several areas across Jakarta, W java, C Java, Sumatra and Manado.

"I have ordered all the main commanders to be ready to mitigate disasters. We have deployed 31 thousand personnel to help people and have also established flood posts," stated TNI Commander General Moeldoko here, on Thursday.

According to Moeldoko, the soldiers will also give medical support to the disaster victims.

"There will be post-flood illnesses that may occur and we will prepare a medical team to help people," Moeldoko revealed.

The TNI has also prepared Zeni Corps to help people in repairing their damaged houses.

Meanwhile, Head of Information and General Division of TNI Colonel Bernardus Robert had earlier stated that the Commander has instructed all soldiers to be ready to help victims of floods due to bad weather conditions and high intensity of rain, across Indonesia.

The Military has deployed 5,559 soldiers in Jakarta to established flood disaster posts in Cempaka Putih, Petamburan, Tanah Abang, Kapuk Muara, Pluit, Penjaringan, Kebon Jeruk, Cengkareng, Kapuk Raya, Bukit Duri, Cipulir, Pangadegan and other areas that have been affected by floods.

The Military also deployed several facilities such as 128 units of inflatable boats, 57 tents, 30 ambulance cars, 34 mobile kitchens, 89 trucks, 42 inflatable lifeboats, 30 units of rotor motors, 565 life vests, 15 units of river boats and 1 helicopter of EC 120 B Colibri as well as 1 SA 330 aircraft.

The TNI has also deployed 10,870 personnel in W Java and Banten Province, who have been posted in Bogor, Sukabumi, Bandung, Sumedang, Garut, Ciamis, Tasikmalaya, Karawang, Subang, Cirebon, Kuningan, Indramayu, Majalengka, Purwakarta, Pandeglang, Serang and Cilegon.

Meanwhile, 1,040 soldiers have been deployed in C Java to stand by in Magelang, Muntilan, Ngentak, Sawangan, Pekalongan, Buaran, Wiradesa, Sragitirto, Pemalang, Widuri, Sugiwaras, Batang, Donorojo, Tahunan, Kalibeluk, Warungasem, Kembang, Kalinyamatan and Kebon Agung.

Besides this, at least 1,147 soldiers have been deployed in Sumatra Island across Bengkulu, Ogan Komering Ilir, Banyu Asin, Jambi, Merangi and Lampung.

"The TNI has also deployed 741 soldiers in Manado to mitigate disasters in Tinoor, Ranotana, Tambolang, Tomohon and Sario.

The mitigation disaster, stated Bernardus, is one of TNIs main tasks, besides defending Indonesia from perpetrators and terrorists as noted in Indonesian Laws of 2004.
