Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), in collaboration with regional disaster mitigation agencies (BPBDs), has set up Christmas and New Year holiday alert posts to anticipate hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides.

"Entering the transition of the dry season to the rainy season, there are several potential hydrometeorological disasters with high rainfall during the Christmas and New Year holiday period," said Abdul Muhari, head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Communication Center, in a statement on Saturday.

BNPB has set up alert posts from Lampung to Java Island and Bali. They will be operational from December 22 to 31, 2023.

The agency decided to establish alert posts in Lampung, Java, and Bali because these regions fall on widely used homecoming and travel routes and are prone to natural disasters.

Muhari said that joint teams of officers from the provincial, district, and city BPBDs, the military and police, and other ministries or agencies have been deployed at the disaster alert posts.

The joint teams are monitoring potential crowd points, including at river, beach, and mountain tourist attractions.

BNPB has also prepared several disaster alert monitoring posts on the northern coast (Pantura), southern coast (Pansela), middle route, and toll road rest areas in the Central Java region.

Along the Pantura Line from Brebes to Blora, BNBP has set up posts in Semarang City, Kudus, and Rembang.

The agency has also set up posts at four toll road rest areas in Brebes, Batang, Salatiga, and Sragen.

It has also installed posts in Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Semarang district, and Klaten on the middle route, and in Cilacap and Kebumen on the southern coast of Central Java.

In Bali, BNPB has set up safety posts, service posts, and integrated posts at 34 points.
