The floodwaters began to ebb in a number of affected areas including the Goleng hamlet in the Jati subdistrict, Head of the Kudus District Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Jumadi stated here on Friday.
Some of the flood evacuees returned home to tend to their cattle, he noted.
As per the data received, on Friday, 4,271 evacuees left for their homes and 10,302 evacuees are still living at the shelters. The evacuees are being accommodated in 53 different shelters.
Kudus was hit by flash floods and landslides, which displaced 9,178 people and claimed 12 lives.
In the past few weeks, floods and landslides have hit parts of Indonesia, particularly Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan Islands, and are spreading further, claiming more lives as incessant torrential rains continue unabated.
In Jakarta, the floods killed 23 people, while in North Sulawesi, 19 fatalities were reported due to landslides and floods.
