"Based on the 15 day report, the flood waste that was carried by the Sanitation Department reached 91,529 ton with 10,899 round trip freights," pointed out Head of Jakartas Sanitation Department Unu Nurdin, here on Monday.
Unu noted that the waste amount carried from rivers reached 5,698 tons with 459 freights and daily wastes during the 15 days of floods reached 85,650 ton with 10,440 freights.
The bulky amount of flood waste was stacked at Kalibata Bridge, Kampung melayu Bridge, Pluit Floodgate, Perintis Kemerdekaan Floodgate, Karet Floodgate, Season City Bridge and Teluk Gong.
"Therefore, excavators stood by the river banks to dredge the flood waste into garbage trucks carried it to the Bantar Gebang landfill in Bekasi, West Java," Unu stated.
Most of the flood wastes were categorized as heavy garbage, including mattresses, bamboos, wood, cupboards, refrigerators and other household furniture.
The flood waste management was also hampered by the heavier and bigger volumes of garbage that mixed with water.
"Hence, we dont want to wait. When the garbage truck has filled fully, we carry it immediately to the Bantar Gebang Landfill to avoid bulky stack," Unu pointed out.(*)
