"After the PDIP nominated Jokowi as its presidential candidate, many people had begun attacking him," Megawati said.
Buleleng, Bali (ANTARA News) - General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri said some people became worried after the nomination of Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, as PDIPs presidential candidate.

"After the PDIP nominated Jokowi as its presidential candidate, many people had begun attacking him," Megawati, who is a former Indonesian president, said here on Thursday.

Delivering a speech, during the PDIP campaign at a sports hall in Sangga Langit village, Grokgak Subdistrict, Buleleng District, Megawati said the attacks, which were directed at Jokowi, were odd because the people who were attacking him were worried only because they feared Jokowi may become the president.

Megawati stated that before naming Jokowi as PDIPs presidential candidate, she had consulted him and had discussed his vision, mission and programs.

Jokowi, she said, had vision, mission and programs to develop the nation and the states.

"Jokowi had plans for programs to empower the people, so that they could be self-reliant and prosperous based on Indonesias available resources and potential," she noted.

Megawati, who was Indonesias fifth president, said if the people trusted the PDIP to govern the country, it will work hard to realize the countrys dream of becoming self-reliant in food and energy.

"The conditions of the Indonesian people should become better in the future than they were currently," she stressed.

A total of 12 political parties in the national level have been conducting campaigns since March 16 for the upcoming legislative elections on April 9, 2014.

The 12 political parties are the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), National Awakening Party (PKB), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), Golkar Party (Golkar), Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra), Democratic Party (Demokrat), National Mandate Party (PAN), United Development Party (PPP), Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura), Crescent Star Party (PBB), and Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI).

They will vie for the votes of 185.8 million eligible voters to win the 560 seats at stake in the Parliament.(*)
