The meeting, held at the Sentul International Convention Center in Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday, was attended by governors, head of districts, mayors, representatives from the Indonesian Militarys headquarter, the Supreme Court, and the General Elections Commission (KPU) along with the first echelon in the Home Ministerial Office, commanders of the military regional command, and the heads of regional police from 34 provinces.
President Yudhoyono remarked that the meeting was important to prepare the country ahead of the presidential election on July 9 and cited 13 instructions to be exercised by all stakeholders, particularly the heads of local governments.
The instructions included disseminating adequate information to the public about the presidential election, avoiding the violation of laws and regulations, and avoiding black campaign.
"I hope there will be adequate information, even though public information was available during the last legislative election, but we still need to inform the public about who is in charge of some jobs related to the presidential election, since it is not only under the presidents control," Yudhoyono noted.
President Yudhoyono also addressed some violations that occurred during the legislative election in April and requested all the heads of local governments to ensure that it is not repeated.
"I heard that some local governments heads were calling on the public to choose a particular party during the last legislative election, dont do that again," he stressed.
Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauzi reiterated that the meeting had important and strategic values for the central and local governments in conducting the presidential election as it was also mandated by article 126 of Law Number 15/2011 about the Management of General Elections.
"The purpose of this meeting is finding the same perception to synergize all stakeholders and strengthen work coordination for the success of the presidential and vice presidential election 2014," he pointed out.
Some presentations will be delivered by the presidential elections stakeholders, such as KPUs Chairman Husni Kamil Manik, Elections Monitoring Agencys Chairman Muhammad, Head of Indonesian Police Sutarman, and Coordinating Minister of Political, Law and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto.(*)
