"At this stage, the critical point is at KPU and perhaps later at the Constitutional Court (MK). In view of that, heads of state constitutions have expressed their commitment to guard KPUs independence," MK Chief Justice Hamdan Zoelva said at a press conference after the meeting.
The meeting was attended by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, vice president Boediono, MK Chief Justice Hamdan Zoelva, Supreme Court Chief Justice Hatta Ali, Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Sidarto Danusubroto, House Speaker Marzuki Alie, Chairman of the Regional Representatives Council Irman Gusman, head of Judicial Commission Suparman Marzuki, and deputy chairman of the State Audit Board.
The meeting held with a theme titled "Settling Presidential and Vice Presidential Election Dispute Fairly and Respectably" was also attended by KPU chairman Husni Kamil Manik and Chairman of the General Election Supervisory Muhammad.
Hamdan said in case election disputes were brought to MK, heads of state institutions had agreed to guard the courts independence and impartiality in settling them.
"The heads of state institutions have also assured that no intervention and pressure will happen on the court," he said.
He said the heads had expressed commitment to jointly secure the peoples votes.
KPU chairman Husni Kamil meanwhile said that there has never been any intervention from any institution so far, adding that recapitulation of vote tallies have now reached a provincial level.
"There has never been any intervention," he said.
Based on a report, recapitulation at provincial level on Friday had been successfully completed, especially in provinces with less than 10 districts/cities.
He said KPU members in the last two days had also monitored recapitulation at district/city level, which had also gone well and smoothly.
Husni said he had observed the enthusiasm of the public during campaigning, voting, and recapitulation process.
"They have been monitoring what the election organizer has been doing not only with regard to recapitulation but also publication," he said.
He said KPU had also uploaded important data from vote-counting documents at its website.
The KPU is scheduled to announce the results of the election and thus the winner of the election on July 22.
The race between the two pairs Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla has so far been very tight.
Following the election, the two had claimed victory over the election.
Several survey institutes meanwhile had declared the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla pair as the winner, while others had declared that the Prabowo-Hatta pair had won.(*)
