Leaders from about 30 countries and ministers from over 70 countries are expected to participate in the World Conference in Sendai, which will also be attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla will share his experiences on disaster mitigation efforts in the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in 2015 in Sendai, Japan, on March 14-18.
Jusuf Kallas attendance at the World Conference had been confirmed by Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yasuaki Tanizaki here on Monday, after he met the vice president to convey details regarding his schedule during the visit to Japan.
"I have explained the schedule of the vice presidents visit to Japan. We are looking forward to his arrival in Japan as he has many experiences (on disaster risk reduction)," he noted.
According to Tanizaki, Kalla was the most appropriate candidate to represent Indonesia at the conference as he had significantly contributed to disaster mitigation and recovery after the earthquake and tsunami struck Aceh in 2004.
Tanizaki stated that Indonesia and Japan had shared several experiences and learnt lessons related to disaster mitigation, such as tsunami, earthquake, and volcanic eruption.
"We believe that we will enhance our cooperation on disaster mitigation between the two countries," he noted.
Vice Presidents Deputy Secretary Dewi Fortuna Anwar remarked that when the earthquake jolted Sendai Prefecture on March 11, 2011, Jusuf Kalla was present in Japan and had directly led the Indonesian nationals evacuation process.
"We heard the details from Mr Kalla on how he directly led the evacuation process of the Indonesian citizens at that time," he said.
Thus, Anwar noted that the vice president would share Indonesias and his personal experiences on disaster mitigation.
The Japanese News Agency Kyodo reported that according to government officials, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will also attend the meeting and is expected to announce additional support for developing economies in the form of funds and technologies on disaster management.
