The Chief of the Data Center and Public Relations of the agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in his short message received here, the officers had evacuated people who live in Sukanalu Village of Namanteran Sub-district, Karo District.
The evacuation was held from 21:40 pm to 23:00 pm on Sunday (June 14).
Mount Sinabung has spurted six times volcanic dust to the south eastern area as far as 3 kilometers at a height of 2 kilometers.
The officers evacuated people to the refugee shelter located in the office of Indonesian Youth National Committee of Karo in Kabanjahe City.
According to the data, there were at least 2,785 people of Karo who were evacuated due to the increase activity of Mount Sinabung.
The mitigation agency will re-examine the total number of refugees on Sunday morning to get the real count.
The Volcano and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center has announced the increasing activity of Sinabung from "standby" to be "wary" status.
The mountain has the potential to spewing volcanic debris followed by dust to southern and southeastern area that can reach seven kilometers.
The agency has recommended evacuation of the people in several villages in the radius of seven kilometers from the mountain. The villages which are prone to volcanic debris and dust are Sukameriah Village, Bekerah Village, Simacem Village, Gurukinayan Village, Kutatengah Village, Berastepu Village, Gamber Village, and Sibintun Hamlet.
