"The law on maritime affairs is the basis for world maritime axis which has been declared by President Joko Widodo," Regional Representative Council (DPD) Chairman Irman Gusman said during the joint plenary season of the DPD and the House of Representatives (DPR) ahead of the 70th anniversary of Indonesias Independent Day here on Friday.
Gusman noted that the focus of maritime affairs is in line with the view of an oceanographer who said that Indonesia needs to "rest" the resources of land and turning to the marine sector as a source of food and life in Indonesia.
The DPD chairman said he had drawn up a bill related to the archipelago insight that was ready to be submitted to Parliament.
Earlier, the newly installed Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Environment Rizal Ramli was asked to overcome the ego-sectoral in realizing various development programs in the maritime and fisheries sector by ensuring that there is no technical ministry to dominate.
"There should be no more technical minister who dominates, let alone to feel that he is right on the wrong path," Indonesian Traditional Fishermen Association (KNTI) Chairman Riza Damanik told Antara on Thursday.
According to him, the should no egosektoral in each ministry, especially in a number of major issues that often arise in the marine and fisheries sector.(*)
