Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The tax receipt target of Rp1,565.8 trillion in the draft 2016 state budget is still relevant under the current economic conditions, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said.

"The government is of the view that the target is still reasonable with regards to the economic slowdown in 2015 and the economic prospects for 2016," he said at a plenary meeting of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday.

The plenary meeting was focused on the governments reply to general views of factions in the DPR regarding the bill on the 2016 state budget and its financial notes.

The minister underscored the need to expedite efforts to achieve the target of tax receipts in view of the huge national tax potential. Therefore, taxpayers compliance with taxation obligations must be increased and tax evasion must be minimized.

"For its part, the government will make improvements, among others, by revising taxation regulations, improving the tax management and system, increasing taxpayers compliance with taxation obligations and providing good taxation services," Brodjonegoro said.

The government expects support from the legislative body to carry out the ongoing tax reforms and improve taxation rules in order to boost national development, he said.

The tax receipt target of Rp1,565.8 trillion in the draft 2016 state budget represents a 5 percent increase compared with the Rp1,489.3 trillion allocated in the revised 2015 state budget.

The 2016 tax receipt target also took into account the realization of tax receipts in 2015, which are expected to fall short by Rp120 trillion of the target.(*)
