We handled 14 cases of illegal fishing of which four have been dealt ..."Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA News) - The Lampung Water Polices Directorate has successfully prosecuted 14 cases of illegal fishing in their waters in 2015.
"We handled 14 cases of illegal fishing of which four have been dealt with or P21, while the rest have been transferred to the Lampung Provincial Marine and Fisheries Department as they are related to administrative matters," Lampung Police Chief Brig. Gen. Edward Syah Pernong stated here on Thursday.
The investigation intensified to support the central governments mission to transform Indonesias waters into a global maritime axis.
Lampung Gulf is one of the pathways included in the Indonesian archipelagic sea lanes (ALKI) and a national crossing channel connecting the islands of Sumatra and Java.
Therefore, the role of the Lampung Water Polices Directorate is important in supporting Indonesia to become a global maritime axis.
"We will continue to do our duty as helpers, protectors, and servants of the country, which cover patrolling, escorting, and enforcing the law in the waters of Lampung Bay," Pernong affirmed.
Apart from handling illegal fishing cases, the Lampung Water Police also brought to light several crimes such as the misuse of explosives, firearms, and sharp weapons as well as marine accidents.
Some cases related to drugs and illegal mining were also given priority by the Lampung Water Police in 2015.
