The house speaker pointed out that Indonesia had experienced a similar hostage crisis in Woyla in March 1981 involving five terrorists led by Imran bin Muhammad Zein of Komando Jihad.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - House Speaker Ade Komarudin believes that the country should not compromise on the hostage-taking situation involving 10 Indonesians allegedly orchestrated by the Abu Sayyaf group, and a precise operation is needed to free the hostages.
"Never compromise and conduct a precise operation. Do not worry as we have conducted such an operation before," Komarudin stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The house speaker pointed out that Indonesia had experienced a similar hostage crisis in Woyla in March 1981 involving five terrorists led by Imran bin Muhammad Zein of Komando Jihad.
According to Komarudin, all security forces could definitely take appropriate steps, so that the efforts to free the Indonesian hostages will be successful.
"The Woyla operation was a success, so I believe and have trust that the countrys security forces can do their best, and we will never compromise," Komarudin emphasized.
Komarudin remarked that the Rp15 billion ransom demanded by the group was akin to a "blackmail" against Indonesia.
Indonesia should not fear such thug acts committed by terrorists as the nations dignity and integrity were at stake.
"The nations pride is too dear to be dented by such an act of a small hostage-taking group," Komarudin affirmed.
Komarudin stated that the efforts to protect the citizens had been outlined in the 1945 Constitution and should be implemented by the government.(*)
