The Indonesian foreign ministry will coordinate the extradition with the Chinese government, Sutiyoso remarked here, Sunday.
"It takes time, but it is already under control," he said in response to the date of Samadikuns extradition.
The government is also on the lookout for 33 other fugitives, he noted, adding that he had informed the president of the plan to extradite Samadikun.
"Tracking down fugitives is also a policy of the Jokowi-JK (administration). As an assistant, I follow the policy," he remarked.
Samadikun is the second fugitive to be arrested after former Temanggung District head Totok Ary Prabowo was caught in Cambodia on December 8, 2015.
The BIN has the authority to operate overseas, and therefore, the agency can have overseas representatives, including in the attempt to catch Samadikun.
Samadikun (68) embezzled bailout money granted by the government through the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance.
He was found guilty of embezzling Rp2.5 trillion, or US$190 million, during the 1998 Asian financial crisis.
He was sentenced to four years in jail and fined Rp169 billion in 2003. The Supreme Court upheld the verdict in 2008, but he fled before he could be jailed.(*)
