We should be grateful because through various diplomatic efforts ..."Langkat (ANTARA News) - Some 12 Indonesian traditional fishermen from Langkat district, North Sumatra, were repatriated from Penang island, Malaysia, after they had been detained for four months there, according to Langkat Marine and Fisheries Department spokesman Subiyanto.
"The 12 traditional fishermen arrived at Kuala Namu International Airport on Friday (August 26), and were handed to their respective families," Subiyanto remarked here.
He said the fishermen were identified as Samsul, Bahri, Saiful, Ridwan, Rahmat, Akyar, Kikip, Didit, Harun, Nasir, Zemi.
"We should be grateful because through various diplomatic efforts, the traditional fishermen were finally repatriated to Indonesia after they were serving prison time for four months in Malaysia," Subiyanto said.
However, nine others are still being detained in Malaysia, and so Subiyanto expressed hope that they could be repatriated soon to meet with their families at home.
In the meantime, North Sumatras Indonesian Fishermen Association Deputy Chairman Surkani also thanked for various efforts that had been made by relevant institution in relation with the repatriation of the fishermen.
"Of course we give appreciation and thanks for the efforts made for the repatriation of the 12 fishermen," Surkani said.
