"If we look at the condition of the current law, the legal instruments, law enforcement officers, and legal culture need to be reformed because there is a problem," Wiranto said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Wiranto has explained the reasons behind the planned formation of a legal policy package that covers legal instruments, law enforcement officers, and legal culture.

"If we look at the condition of the current law, the legal instruments, law enforcement officers, and legal culture need to be reformed because there is a problem," Wiranto remarked before chairing a ministerial coordination meeting on the formation of a legal policy package at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Politics here on Wednesday.

The first reason, according to him, is that the legal instruments are still overlapping and unclear, so they need to be simplified by straightening out the regulations in force among central and local governments.

For example, in the economic policy package, thousands of laws that hamper economic growth will be removed, Wiranto remarked.

Similar actions will be applied in the field of law, with the revision of legal instruments following a deep analysis.

Secondly, law enforcement officers will be reassessed for integrity and capacity.

Third, there is a need to build public awareness of the fact that citizens are stakeholders in the countrys progress and cannot completely surrender this responsibility to law enforcement or government officials, because society is part of the foundation of the law.

Through the introduction of the new legal policy package, the government is making efforts to build a culture of law that can provide legal guarantees to the public.(*)
