The concerts are being organized to commemorate Colombias Independence Day that falls on July 20, stated a press release from the Colombian Embassy in Jakarta received here on Monday.
The first concert will be held on July 20 at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta and will be attended particularly by Indonesian authorities, accredited diplomatic community, and Colombian community living in Jakarta.
The second concert, however, is open to public and will take place on July 23 at the Grand Indonesia Mall, Jakarta.
Vallenato is Colombias traditional musical genre that has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
"It represents three main cultural influences of the country," the release noted.
The three cultural influences are of the European, which is embodied by the instrument of accordion, the indigenous of Colombia by the guacharaca, similar to percussion, and the African by the vallenato box, similar to tambourine.
Guiterrez, was born in Valledupar, also known as the capital city of vallenato, in the Province of Cesar, Colombia.
The city is also home to the most outstanding vallenato musicians in the country.
Guiterrez has been a protagonist of several television productions in Colombia where he showcased his music and represented the musical history of this genre.
He has also performed vallenato music in concerts in several countries in Europe.
Vallenato, along with cumbia, is a popular folk music of Colombia. It primarily comes from the Colombias Caribbean region in the northern part of the country.(*)
