"I hope that Papuan children, as the future generations, who will continue to pursue the nation`s aspirations, would stay away from drugs and study hard for a better future," he told Papuan children in Sorong, West Papua, on Friday.
Indonesian children, despite being smart, will have no concrete future if they are involved in drug abuse, he pointed out.
Hence, Papuan children must increase their belief in God Almighty, so that they will be able to stay away from the temptation to abuse drugs, he remarked.
President Jokowi emphasized that Papuan children should respect, help, and love each other rather than engage in blasphemy and hurt one another.
Indonesia is a large, pluralistic country whose citizens help and respect one another, he noted.
Indonesia is known for its politeness, so Indonesian children, particularly Papua`s younger generations, should stay away from violence and help each other, he stated.
The head of state also expressed hope that teachers in Papua would make all-out efforts to impart knowledge to the younger generations, particularly to prevent them from being involved in drug abuse and violence.
