Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Consul General in Sydney, Heru Hartanto Subolo, seeks to increase the visibility of Indonesia in three states of New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia, which are included in the working area of the Consulate General.

A statement from the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney, received by Antara here on Tuesday, mentioned that the Consul General has recently made an official visit to Adelaide.

The Consul General visited the Adelaide Festival Center in the downtown and met the Chairman of Trustees, Michael Abbot, and the CEO of Artistic Director, Douglas Gautier.

Adelaide is known as the Festival City in Australia, which hosts many festivals that specifically address the theme of Southeast Asia.

Adelaide is a venue of the OzAsia and INDOfest festivals and contributes to the promotion of Indonesia`s arts, culture, and culinary in Australia, particularly in South Australia.

"Festivals such as OzAsia are an opportunity to promote the cultural understanding between Indonesia and Australia. Furthermore, I would like to see more visibility of Indonesia, especially modern Indonesia in Australia, through participation in such festivals," Subolo remarked.

Abbot, who is very close to Indonesia, has visited Indonesia several times. He will visit Bandung (West Java) and Makassar (South Sulawesi) and in the near future.

Earlier, the administrations of West Java and South Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation of twin cities between Adelaide and Bandung, particularly in arts, cultures, and festivals such as Bandung Festival.

Abbot and Gautier positively responded to the Consul General`s plan to improve Indonesia?s visibility and strengthen relations between Indonesia and South Australia in arts. The Adelaide Festival Center supports the Bandung administration by providing architects, advices, and training in developing its art center.
