Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The death toll from the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that rattled the islands of Lombok and Summbawa, West Nusa Tenggara province, on Sunday morning rose to 14, while 162 others were injured and thousands of houses were damaged.

The district of East Lombok was hit the hardest, with 10 people killed, including a Malaysian, Head of the Data and Information Center and Public Relations Service of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in Jakarta on Sunday.

In addition, the quake also left 67 people seriously injured, and hundreds of others moderately and lightly injured.

More than one thousand houses were severely, moderately and lightly damaged.

The other four dead victims were found in North Lombok district.

The quake also caused serious damage to 41 houses, moderate damage to 74 houses and 148 light damage to 144 houses.

In total, the quake affected 5,237 families.

Several houses were also damaged in West Lombok district, West Sumbawa district and Mataram city.

The local disaster mitigation board (BPBD) is still collecting data on the impact of the quake.

The quake hit Lombok and Sumawa Islands on Sunday at 6:47 a.m. local time, but did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.

The tremor was centered 8.4 degrees southern latitude and 116.55 degrees eastern longitude, 47 km east of the West Nusa Tenggara provincial capital of Mataram , at a depth of 24 km.

Following the quake, Lombok was jolted by tens of aftershocks.

As of 14.00 West Indonesia Standard Time, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded a total of 124 aftershocks with smaller intensity.

The quake victims are currently in dire need of medical workers, medical supplies, kids ware and fast food.

The BPBD and other several agencies have distributed mineral water, tents, and supplement food to the quake victims.
