The Solidarity Week for Palestine coincides with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki`s visit to Indonesia, the Foreign Ministry said in a press statement released on Saturday.
"This is a form of Indonesia`s continued commitment to Palestine and (part of the effort) to enhance Indonesian people`s understanding and concern about the Palestinian people`s struggle," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said.
Various activities involving government institutions, international organizations, non-governmental organizations for humanity, interfaith figures, philanthropists and community members will highlight the Solidarity Week for Palestine.
Both Retno Marsudi and Riyad al-Maliki joined the public in the activities on Saturday. The two foreign ministers and the Bandung mayor inaugurated "Palestine Walk: Road to Freedom" held in Bandung, West Java, on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in Jakarta, the two foreign ministers, along with social figures and interfaith figures joined "Walk for Peace and Humanity" event during the Car-Free Day on Sunday. The event was designed to strengthen the Indonesian people`s solidarity for Palestine and their understanding of Indonesia`s role in and contribution to Palestine`s struggle for independence.
The two foreign ministers are also scheduled to hold their first bilateral consultation meeting on Tuesday (Oct 16). The meeting will serve as a means for the two nations to translate good relations into concrete cooperation.
During his stay in Indonesia, al-Maliki is also scheduled to sign a number of cooperation agreements with the Indonesian foreign minister.
