The award is presented to recognize Baswedan`s achievements in governing the Indonesian capital city. He is also viewed as being consistent in implementing principles of good governance that emphasizes transparency, participation, and accountability.
Baswedan was also lauded for several policies that he has made, including on halting the Jakarta Bay reclamation project and appointing Jakarta-owned company Propertindo to manage the ex-reclamation area for a public facility area.
The governor expressed gratitude for the award and said the achievements were owing to every employee of the Jakarta Administration having played a role in materializing social justice for every Jakartan.
"Thank you for lending this mandate. I accept this on behalf of so many people, who have worked behind the scene," he emphasized.
Themed "Islamic Inspiration for the Nation," the event was attended by Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara, vice presidential candidate Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, dangdut music legend Roma Irama, prominent lawyer and former minister Yusril Izha Mahendra, and senator Fahira Idris of Jakarta, among others.
Muslim Choice Awards are bestowed on those considered to have contributed significantly to the Indonesian development.
