Hundreds of houses were swept away or damaged by the tsunami that killed more than 430 people in the coastal areas of the Sunda strait in Banten and Lampung Selatan.
"The ministry already has experience in building temporary accommodations for tsunami victims in West Nusa Tenggara and Central Sulawesi (which were hit by tsunami earlier this year)," Rini said when inspecting the evacuation camps in the sub-district of Sumur on Saturday.
The temporary houses are needed to provide adequate and healthy accommodations of the families of surviving victims, the minister said.
The houses will have drinking water supply , toilets and electricity , she said, adding the accommodations would be especially needed by school children.
"We are concerned that the sub-district of Sumur was the hardest hit by the tsunami in Banten," Rini said.
She said the BUMN Ministry has continued to keep synergy with state companies PT Telkom, PLN, BNI, Krakatau Steel, Waskita Karya, BTN and Pertamina.
The state companies have always actively contributed to providing temporary houses for victims of natural disasters and to rebuild damaged infrastructure, she said.
She said Waskita Karya, the country`s largest construction company, already brought in heave equipment to the sub-district of Sumur.
Priority is given to housing and infrastructure development to help the people live a descent life and free themselves from the traumatic experience, she said.
The tsunami was triggered by big land slides underwater following continued eruptions of Anak Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Strait.
The volcano still shows threatening activities that people including tourists were warned not to come closer than 5 kilometers from the crater of the angry volcano.
