"During this year and the next, we will extensively provide training courses for construction workers, both in ministries, including the State Enterprises (BUMN) Ministry, as well as in the private sector. (They will be trained) in the country, and some will be sent overseas," Jokowi stated at Istora Senayan, here, Tuesday.
President Jokowi launched an electronic certification service program for construction skills during an event attended by thousands of construction workers.
"This is a program to upgrade skills, and it will give an opportunity to construction workers to learn, as without that we would be left behind other countries. We will impart new and competitive skills to them," Jokowi noted.
The president pointed out that it would be futile for Indonesia to have sophisticated technology if there were no capable human resources to operate it.
"Amid the progress in technology, we must not forget to continuously improve the quality of human resources in the construction field," the president emphasized.
The government has planned to certify 512 thousand construction workers in 2019 and 750 thousand workers in the next year.
