In addition to the logistical assistance, the ministry's Directorate of Social Protection for Victims of Social Disasters (PSKBS) in February conducted an assessment with the help of the Provincial and District Health Office of Nduga through the Psychosocial Support Services.

Since there are people who need attention, the state must be present. Initially, there were reports of 52 thousand refugees who were spread over a number of districts, Harry said.

The Secretary of Nduga District Namia Gwijangge, however, clarified that there were 39 thousand residents who had fled to Wamena, Kenyam, Timika, and also to the forests.

"I have ordered 39 thousand of them to be validly recorded. Then we will complete the data so that the aid is truly channeled," Namia Gwijangge said.

Armed conflict between the Indonesian National Armed Forces police and the armed criminal group led by Egainus Kogoya in Yal District of Nduga District on February 26, 2019 caused residents in Mbal, Yal, Yigi, Mapenduma, Nikuri and Yalma Districts to flee.
