One of the indicators is that a city must ensure children's right to educationSurabaya (ANTARA) - Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini revealed various indicators of a child-friendly city during the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) forum themed Child-Friendly Cities Summit in Cologne, Germany, from October 15 to 17, 2019. Risma addressed the indicators of a child-friendly city on the second day of the forum Wednesday during the plenary session on building child responsive cities and communities, the public relations service of the Surabaya city administration said Thursday.
"One of the indicators is that a city must ensure children's right to education," she said.
The Surabaya city administration provides free education ranging from kindergarten to junior high school and buses to ferry the students.
"We provide school buses to support the mobilization of children from their homes to school every day," she said.
Besides, the city administration also provides scholarships to students who are achievers.
Presently, some 1,600 students receive these scholarships, not to mention free school kits, uniforms, textbooks and bicycles, she said.
"We also routinely send teachers and students abroad for experience exchange and training," she said.
Some time ago, the city administration sent a group of talented young footballers to train in Liverpool, the United Kingdom, under a sister-city cooperation agreement.
The other indicator is that a city or area must be able to create a supportive environment. In this context, the city government launched educational kampong.
