Lampung (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) undertook a working visit to Lampung Province to inaugurate the Trans-Sumatra toll road of the Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung toll road, spanning 189 kilometers (km).

The president had departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, on Friday at 8:10 WIB aboard an Indonesian Presidential Aircraft.

Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaidi, along with Commander of the Sriwijaya Military Regional Command (Kodam) II Major General Irwan, awaited the president to arrive, Antara reported in Lampung.

The president will inaugurate the 189-km-long Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung toll road.

The inauguration was held at the Simpang Pematang toll gate KM 240, Mesuji District, Lampung Province.

According to a press statement from Chief of the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat Erlin Suastini, the president was also accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono.

The 304-km Trans Sumatra Toll Road will connect Sumatra Island from Aceh to Bakauheni. Phase 1 comprises eight sections divided into four initial sections: (1) Medan–Binjai, (2) Palembang–Indralaya, (3) Pekanbaru–Dumai, (4) Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar; and four additional sections: (5) Terbanggi Besar–Pematang Panggang, (6) Pematang Panggang–Kayu Agung, (7) Palembang–Tanjung Api-Api and (8) Kisaran–Tebing Tinggi.

The project aims to boost connectivity, lower logistics costs, and spur industrial growth on Sumatra Island.
