The dried cannabis, whose trading and consumption is illegal in Indonesia, was seized by police officials in West Jakarta City, South Jakarta City, Bekasi District, and Depok City. "Following our probe, the illicit drugs will be traded in the Jakarta and Greater Jakarta areas," Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Pol. Nana Sudjana noted.
Sudjana remarked that the Jakarta Police had detained 19 suspects, though one of them was fatally shot at while attempting to resist arrest.
The police chief noted that the suspects had violated Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, mainly article 114, no. 2; article 111, no. 2; and article 132, no. 1. Following multiple charges, the suspects are liable to serve lifetime imprisonment, Sudjana stated.
Apart from arresting suspects and seizing the dried marijuana, the Jakarta Police also contacted the North Sumatra Police to probe the sources of dried marijuana traded in Indonesia's capital city.
The investigations had led the Jakarta Police and North Sumatra Police to a five-hectare cannabis plantation well-concealed in the mountainous Mandailing Natal District, North Sumatra Province.
After raiding the plantation, the police seized another 254 kilograms of marijuana and burnt down the cannabis plants.
