Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) Doni Monardo made assurance that Indonesians to be evacuated from the Chinese province of Hubei are in sound health.
"The Indonesian citizens to be flown home from Hubei Province are healthy," he remarked in Natuna District, Riau Islands Province, on Saturday.
All Indonesian citizens have undergone a series of medical checkups before being flown to Indonesia.
"If any of them show symptoms of fever, then they will surely not be allowed to leave Wuhan," he emphasized.
Shortly after arriving in Indonesia, the Indonesian citizens will be subject to a two-week-long health observation before being allowed to return to their respective families, he noted.
"They will neither be quarantined nor isolated. However, they will be temporarily sheltered for a two-week observation," he pointed out.
He called on the public to not harbor concerns over the Indonesians returning from Hubei since the Health Ministry, National Defense Forces (TNI), and other agencies had made preparations in tune with medical standards.
"The health minister and I will remain in the forefront when they arrive. This means if they are ill and run the risk of being infected, I think it is impossible for the health minister and BNPB chief to be there. Of course, we want to save ourselves," he stated.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi had earlier stated during the day that Indonesia will evacuate its 245 citizens from the Chinese province of Hubei on Saturday aboard a Batik Air wide-bodied aircraft.
In total, 250 Indonesian citizens, including five members of the advance team, will be flown in from the Hubei provincial capital of Wuhan to Indonesia on that day, Marsudi noted at a press conference held at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten Province.
In the meantime, Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto stated that all Indonesians to be evacuated are in sound health. They will be picked up from different areas in Hubei Province in accordance with the health protocol in Indonesia.
Putranto noted that they remain obliged to follow the health protocol in Indonesia shortly after arriving from Hubei.
President Joko Widodo has instructed to evacuate Indonesians to prevent them from contracting the coronavirus infection that first broke out in Wuhan.
The World Health Organization has declared a state of global emergency for the coronavirus outbreak.
