"If an e-commerce platform applies customer-oriented protection, the BSSN protects all Indonesian citizens. Regardless of being requested or not, the BSSN will ensure the protection and security of Indonesian citizens' personal data," he noted in a statement here on Wednesday.
Setiyawan drew emphasis to this aspect during a dialog on Cybersecurity in the Digital Economy Sector held via videoconferencing with Indonesian e-commerce platforms, including Tokopedia, Gojek, Bukalapak, Traveloka, Jd.id, Kredivo, and Blibli, on Tuesday (May 12).
The dialog, organized by BSSN and led by its head, Hinsa Siburian, is part of a collaboration to safeguard e-commerce platforms from personal data theft and cybercrimes.
Siburian opened the dialog by elucidating on BSSN’s duties and functions as well as the conditions of the Indonesian cyberspace to participants of the teleconference.

The BSSN has closely monitored cybersecurity in the digital economy sector comprising 2,218 startups, four unicorns, one decacorn, and 227 fintechs, he remarked.
In the meantime, the deputy for BSSN Countermeasures and Recovery elaborated on the protection of Indonesia's digital economic ecosystem, regulations pertaining to Indonesia's digital economy, and the development of platforms following the issuance of Government Regulation (PP) Number 71 of 2019 on the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions.
During the discussion session, several e-commerce platforms highlighted e-commerce business development, e-commerce security in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the significance of e-commerce customer education and collaboration with the government in maintaining the digital economic ecosystem.
In his closing remarks, Siburian expressed readiness to guarantee and protect Indonesia's digital economy, including industries engaged in the sector.
