Gorontalo (ANTARA) - Trianto Bialang, spokesman of the Gorontalo COVID-19 Task Force, confirmed here on Monday night that 35 health workers in Gorontalo Province had tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"These health workers comprise doctors, nurses, midwives, and analysts, most of whom are from Boalemo District," he revealed at a press conference.

The health workers contracted the infection while handling a COVID-19 patient, identified by his initials as HABY, 56, from Lemito Sub-district, Pohuwato District. HABY, who was designated as patient 368, died on July 18, 2020.

HABY had earlier undergone treatment at the Boalemo Farmers and Fishermen Hospital and thereafter referred to the Aloei Saboe Hospital where he breathed his last.

Gorontalo registered 107 new confirmed cases on July 20, 2020, the highest count since the province made public its first confirmed cases on May 10, 2020.

In addition to health workers, banking employees featured among the several positive confirmed patients today.

Until July 20, 2020, a total of 538 COVID-19 cases, including 27 deaths and 309 recoveries, were recorded in Gorontalo Province.

The province is offering treatment to 202 COVID-19 patients.

Nationwide, on Monday, 1,576 new recoveries were recorded, thereby bringing the total tally of people making a recovery from the novel coronavirus disease in the country until now at 46,977, a government spokesperson noted.

"Once again, workplaces, offices, or industries (factories), we beg (you) to really be able to create a safe working atmosphere (in view) of the COVID-19 pandemic," Achmad Yurianto, the government spokesperson for COVID-19 response, stated at a press conference for the Task Force for Acceleration of the COVID-19 Response at Graha BNPB in Jakarta on Monday.

Based on data compiled as of Monday noon, July 20, 2020, Indonesia had recorded 1,693 fresh COVID-19 infections, thereby bringing the total case tally to 88,214. In the meantime, 96 people succumbed to the disease, which takes the death toll to 4,239.
