Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) closed in the red early this week even as the majority of Asian stock exchanges strengthened.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) closed 22.93 points lower, or down 0.46 percent, at 4,922.86, while the index of the 45 most liquid stocks (LQ45) fell 6.212 points, or 0.82 percent, to 754.11.

“There was no domestic and global macroeconomic data that had a high positive impact on the market. The IHSG was also influenced by the sentiment of the second wave of COVID-19 and post-Brexit talks, while the market also awaited the US presidential debate (scheduled) on Tuesday," Bina Artha Sekuritas analyst M. Nafan Aji Gusta noted on Monday.

Shortly after opening higher, the IHSG weakened and stayed in the negative territory until the close of trade.

Stocks in seven sectors recorded a correction, with the miscellaneous industry sector deepening its fall by 1.97 percent, followed by the financial and agricultural sectors, which declined 1.58 percent and 1.55 percent, respectively.

Stocks in three sectors rose, led by the mining sector, which was up 0.34 percent, followed by the property and the infrastructure sectors, which climbed 0.27 percent and 0.21 percent, respectively.

Monday's trade recorded net foreign sales of Rp593.12 billion.

A total of 661,334 transactions were recorded on Monday, with 10.75 billion shares, worth Rp6.32 trillion, changing hands. Meanwhile, 184 shares rose, 235 shares fell, and 156 shares remained unchanged.

In regional markets, the Nikkei Index jumped 307 points, or 1.32 percent, to 23,511.62; the Hang Seng Index climbed 210.39 points, or 0.91 percent, to 23,445.81; and, the Straits Times Index rose 8.82 points, or 0.36 percent, to 2,481.1.
