The formation of this new TNI organizational unit is a form of the government's commitment to continue to transform the organization, so that it remains strong in fulfilling its role
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Military (TNI) had transformed significantly in the last five years by producing several joint commands, divisions, and new units, according to President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

At the commemoration of TNI’s 75th anniversary at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, the president noted that the transformation had given rise to new combat organizations, including the Division III of the Army Reserve Strategic Command (Kostrad), Operation Command III Air Force, Fleet III Navy, and 3rd Marine Corps.

The president noted that subsequently a combined force of three TNI dimensions was formed: three Joint Regional Defense Commands (Kogabwilhan), three Air Force Drone Squadrons, and TNI Cyber Units.

"The formation of this new TNI organizational unit is a form of the government's commitment to continue to transform the organization, so that it remains strong in fulfilling its role," the president stated.

Widodo reiterated that transformation of the TNI should be supported by technological updates and also capacity-building for the personnel that will apply the technology.

Military technology continues to develop at a rapid pace. Such developments will affect future war tactics and strategies.

"We must continue to transform technology and personnel that are able to understand and capitalize on the leaps in information technology, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence technology," the president affirmed.

Widodo noted that the development of these aspects is a precautionary measure to be better prepared for future battles believed to have a greater destructive power or high level of distraction.

"This especially holds relevance in terms of the meeting that runs shorter in terms of determining the winner, and hybrid battles that combine various tactics at once, both conventional and non-conventional, as well as tactics across social, political, and economic dimensions," President Widodo emphasized.
